چکیده

We describe a non-parametric bootstrap method to estimate the statistical properties of Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) and Positron Emission Tomography (PET) images, whatever the type of noise in the projections and the reconstruction algorithm. Using analytical simulations and real PET data, this method is shown to accurately predict the statistical distribution, hence the variance, of reconstructed pixel values for both linear and non-linear reconstruction algorithms.

A non-parametric bootstrap approach for analysing the statistical properties of SPECT and PET images.

Knowledge of the statistical properties of reconstructed single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and positron emission tomography (PET) images would be helpful for optimizing acquisition and image processing protocols. We describe a non-parametric bootstrap approach to accurately estimate the statistical properties of SPECT or PET images whatever the noise properties in the projectio...

Attenuation correction for whole-body PET imaging using automated fuzzy clustering-based segmentatio - Nuclear Science Symposium Conference Record, 2001 IEEE

Segmented-based attenuation correction is now a widely accepted technique to reduce noise contribution of measured attenuation correction. In this paper, we present a new method for segmenting transmission images in positron emission tomography. This reduces the noise on the correction maps while still correcting for differing attenuation coefficients of specific tissues. Based on the Fuzzy C-M...

De-Noising SPECT Images from a Typical Collimator Using Wavelet Transform

Introduction: SPECT is a diagnostic imaging technique the main disadvantage of which is the existence of Poisson noise. So far, different methods have been used by scientists to improve SPECT images. The Wavelet Transform is a new method for de-noising which is widely used for noise reduction and quality enhancement of images. The purpose of this paper is evaluation of noise reduction in SPECT ...

Fast methods for approximation of resolution and covariance for SPECT - Nuclear Science Symposium Conference Record, 2002 IEEE

Resolution and covariance predictors have been derived previously for penalized-likelihood estimators. These predictors can provide accurate approximations to the local resolution properties and covariance functions for tomographic systems given a good estimate of the mean measurements. However, when numerous evaluations are made repeatedly (as in penalty design or calculation of variance image...

A New Approach for Scatter Removal and Attenuation Compensation from SPECT/CT Images

Objective(s): In SPECT, the sinogram contains scatter and lack of attenuated counts that degrade the reconstructed image quality and quantity. Many techniques for attenuation and scatter correction have been proposed. An acceptable method of correction is to incorporate effects into an iterative statistical reconstruction. Here, we propose new Maximum Likelihood Expectation Maximiz...
